Web 2.0 Introduction Video

We all have stories about the events, people, and places we have lived. How does the sharing of these stories help to build community?

Questions that will drive this project:

  • Who are the people in your community?
  • What are the foods you eat in your community?
  • What are the clothes you wear in your community?
  • What music do you hear in your community?
  • Why is it important to share my story?
  • Why is it important to hear other people stories?
  • Why did I come to this community?

What are Artifacts
Our stories are a window into who we are and will play a role in how we see ourselves. In this unit the students are the experts regarding their role within the community. Students will incorporate personal artifacts to illustrate their stories and continue the conversations utilizing Web 2.0 tools (Wikis, and Blogs). Some of these artifacts may look like the following:
  • Pictures (baby, family, weddings, pets, etc)
  • Maps where family is from or lived
  • Family heirlooms (medals, certificates)
  • Quilts
  • Jewelry
  • Music
  • ANYTHING THAT TELLS A HIDDEN STORY

Benefits of project base education:

  • Project base education is empowering students to learn, where the instructor is a coach, a facilitator.
  • Projects make it possible to discover one's natural talent and personal interest.
  • Projects make it possible to discover one's learning personality.
  • Projects are learning tools that is motivated by curiosity.
  • Projects give students opportunity to learn with objects. Not everyone is a literary intellectual.
  • Successful projects are the results of failure and learning to bounce back from it.
  • Projects require a plan, which includes ways to acquire needed knowledge and skills.
